As someone who trains Jiu Jitsu, you will hear two things about a million times in your life: “I want to get in shape before starting Jiu Jitsu,” and “I want to start training but I’m too old.” If you want to hear our answer to the first statement, click here.
As for being “too old” to start Jiu Jitsu, we have a long answer and a short answer: the short answer is “No.” The long answer is “No, now stop questioning it, you’re cutting into your training time!”
It’s overstated, but we truly believe that Jiu Jitsu is for EVERYONE, regardless of size, shape, or age. And that is because people train for different reasons.
We recently asked our members, via Instagram stories, why they started training, and the responses were all over the board. Ranging from staying in shape, to making friends, to wanting something to help them mentally, there is no set mold for a “person who does Jiu Jitsu.” And that’s the fun of it! We’re all here for different reasons, but we are also here to empower one another.
So take our last piece of advice to heart: If you really want to try Jiu Jitsu, push your insecurities aside for just one hour, a single hour, and go try a class! We promise you won’t regret it.
